A major project currently underway is the construction of a treatment plant designed to remove volatile organic chemicals (VOCs) and reduce nitrate levels at two wells in the East Birchwood section of Jericho. The location of the plant will be at the District’s Merry Lane facility. Along with installation of the treatment plant, both wells will be rehabilitated, increasing their capacity output from 1,200 gpm to 1,400 gpm, which will help meet peak water demands during the summer months. A new structure to house the treatment equipment and control center will be built at the Merry Lane location, with the Tobie Lane site getting a cosmetic upgrade. The project is anticipated to be completed by the spring of 2020.
